PM Ramgoolam vows new surveillance law after mass spying scandal
"They spied on everyone," PM Ramgoolam told Parliament on Tuesday, describing the surveillance system allegedly built by the previous government at huge public expense. New legislation on national security and lawful interception is being drafted.
A criminal investigation is running. "There have been arrests, and others will follow," PM Ramgoolam said. Separately, PM Ramgoolam revealed that foreign direct investment hit a record Rs 48 billion in 2025, rebounding from Rs 33 billion the prior year.
Supreme Court orders 12 Mauritius firms to open their books for India
Essar Capital Holdings, registered in Mauritius, lost its appeal to block Indian investigators from seeing its financial records. The Supreme Court called the appeal "misconceived" and gave the firm until 1 June 2026 to hand over the documents.

Court rejects Jugnauth's motion but calls witness secrecy "unacceptable"
