MMM takes three cities, Labour two, as mayoral races wrap up
Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill has a new mayor: Louis Toussaint André of the MMM (Mouvement Militant Mauricien), who held the post in 2012, replacing Gabriella Batour after her expulsion from the party. Gina Poonoosamy stays on as deputy.
Across all five cities, MMM leads Beau-Bassin/Rose-Hill, Quatre-Bornes and Curepipe; Labour (PTr) takes Port Louis and Vacoas/Phoenix. The reshuffle follows a coalition pact between parties who swept last year's municipal vote with 117 of 120 seats. Four cities vote Monday; seven women are set to hold mayoral posts across all five mairies, a first.
