Air Mauritius board faces a Rs 3.4 billion question over fire-sale jets
Air Mauritius directors meet this month to weigh two reports, from investigators Kroll and from Seabury Aviation Partners, on how the national carrier was run and where it goes next. The Kroll report stems from a judicial probe into deals struck during the 2020-2021 voluntary administration.
Aircraft were sold off in that window for about Rs 317 million. Their book value was put at more than Rs 3.7 billion. That leaves a shortfall of roughly Rs 3.4 billion, with two Airbus A319-100s alone going for around Rs 258 million. The board now decides who answers for it.

Consumer body wants big groups taxed, not households, in the budget
A week out from the 2026-27 budget, the secretary-general of the Association des Consommateurs de l'île Maurice (ACIM), the main consumer watchdog, says eroded buying power is the issue ministers must answer. Jayen Chellum wants a levy on large groups rather than a heavier load on shoppers.
His complaint since 2023: when input costs rise, the increase passed to the buyer is often out of all proportion. Profit is fine, Chellum argues, but prices must stay reasonable.
