State land tenants earning under Rs 48,000 will pay Re 1 for the lease
Low-income families on a state residential land lease just saw their rent collapse to single rupee. The Cabinet has approved a revised rent structure: households earning up to Rs 48,000 a month pay a one-off Re 1 for the whole lease, while those between Rs 48,001 and Rs 100,000 pay Rs 1,000.
Above Rs 100,000 a month, tenants pay the full valuation, adjusted every three years by inflation but capped at 15.7625 percent. Family lease transfers and inheritances are carved out and keep the old Rs 6,000 rate. For a household counting every rupee, a lease that now costs one is not nothing.

What killed three whales at Le Bouchon?
What kills three healthy whales in a week? Since 4 August, three Blainville's beaked whales have washed up dead at Le Bouchon. The agriculture ministry leans toward disorientation, cautiously: the bodies showed abrasions, no nets, no vessel strike. Post-mortems at La Vanille found no clear cause. Earlier strandings in 1986, 1998 and 2019 went unanswered.
Court throws out the laundering charge against Rajiv Ramcharitar
The provisional money laundering charge against Rajiv Ramcharitar in the Silver Bank affair has been struck out. The court ruled the holding charge could not stand, lifting his exposure in a case that has trailed him for months. Provisional charges buy investigators time.
