Airport check turns up nearly Rs 150 million in drugs
Nearly Rs 150 million in drugs did not make it past Plaisance Airport. Officers from the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit intercepted the load on Thursday, pulling 20 kilograms of cannabis and another 15 kilograms of suspected drugs out of it. Police arrested two men.
The value alone tells you this was not a courier topping up pocket money, someone further up the chain planned it and fronted the cash. The two now in custody are the easy catch; the unit will be far more interested in the names sitting above them.
Can a private clinic deliver babies without a licence?
Can a private clinic deliver babies without the licence to do it? That is the question now sitting with the Health Ministry after a three-minute video, stamped with a plush clinic's own logo, spread across social media.
In the clip, seven staff arrive with a cake and gift bag to fete a new mother and her baby. Sources say the clinic, in the lower Plaines-Wilhems, may not hold validated licence for deliveries. Health Minister Anil Bachoo has been told, and an internal inquiry is under way.
Up to Rs 2 million on offer to farm with AI
The state is dangling up to Rs 2 million a project to nudge planters toward precision farming, the sensor and data approach that doses water and fertiliser by the square metre rather than the whole field. The new Precision Farming and AI scheme for food production is the carrot. Whether growers on thin margins can front the rest is the catch.
