Concentrix CVG (Mauritius), a business process outsourcing firm based in Ébène, has told staff it means to close its operations in the country. The notice reached employees by email days after a 2 September briefing, and it puts roughly 320 jobs at risk. It is a fresh blow to a sector once sold as a safe bet for school leavers.

Management blames a steady slide in competitiveness. Over six years the company says it lost seven of its biggest clients and won just one back, and that one client walked away after only eighteen months on the books. Headcount tells the same story: from about 870 people in 2023 to under 320 today.

Recruiters once pitched business process outsourcing to young Mauritians as a stable first rung on the ladder, so when a global operator says the numbers no longer add up, the warning travels well beyond one office. Ébène should be nervous.

Seven clients gone in six years, one replacement that left in eighteen months. The pipeline was dry before the email.
