Bruneau Laurette gives the FCC a USB and accuses two former police officers

Activist Bruneau Laurette walked into the Financial Crimes Commission, the FCC, this week carrying a USB stick and a formal complaint. He named two former members of the Special Striking Team, the elite police unit that was disbanded last year, and accused them of soliciting bribes. The alleged demands, he says, date to 2024 and trace back to an arrest in a drug case.

Laurette did not reach for careful language. "Ena sertin inite lapolis ki vreman pouri," he told reporters, meaning some police units are genuinely rotten. He handed the drive to investigators as evidence and asked them to follow it wherever it points, names and all.

The FCC has now opened a probe. What sits on that stick, and whether it implicates more than two men, is the whole question. A complaint with a file attached is a good deal harder to bury than a complaint on its own.

The test is whether the FCC pushes as hard on former officers as their old unit once pushed on its own suspects.
