At Rs 70 a litre, the next fuel hike could land any day
Petrol sells at Rs 70.65 a litre and diesel at Rs 71.25, and Commerce Minister Michael Sik Yuen says another rise could come at any moment. The State Trading Corporation (STC), which imports and prices fuel, is losing money because it has held prices down, he told reporters at Caudan on Friday. Sik Yuen pointed abroad for scale: in some countries a litre nears three euros, about Rs 165, while Mauritius sits near Rs 70.
Two rises have already landed this year, in April and August. A third would sting.
Held prices are a subsidy the STC pays for now and drivers pay for later.
