Buses sit idle at Bonne-Terre as 90 CNT staff call in sick at once
Roughly 90 drivers and controllers at the Compagnie Nationale de Transport, the state bus company, called in sick on Monday morning, leaving dozens of buses stuck at Bonne-Terre and long queues at stops across the north. The timing stung, with SC and HSC school exams under way.
Transport Minister Osman Mahomed called it a disguised go-slow and linked it to a new pilot that uses artificial intelligence to share out overtime more evenly. He warned that staff found responsible will answer for it, and lined up other operators for Tuesday. The union denies giving any order to down tools.
An overtime algorithm built to be fair became, overnight, a reason to stay home.
