A new Ébène link road lets drivers skip the Réduit crush
Drivers leaving Ébène or the Tribeca mall for Port Louis and the north no longer have to funnel through Réduit. The Julius Nyerere B1-M1 Link Road, opened on Wednesday by Minister of National Infrastructure Ajay Gunness, runs a new roundabout and slip road past Maeva Tower straight onto the M1 motorway.
It cost Rs 332 million and was built by Transinvest with GIBB Engineering under the Road Development Authority, work began back in April 2025. Gunness says it is about unclogging a region that chokes at rush hour. Anyone who has sat in the Réduit queue at 08:00 will judge that soon enough.
File your tax return today or the MRA starts charging by the month
Friday is the last day to file your income tax return, and the Mauritius Revenue Authority is blunt: Rs 2,000 for each month you are late, capped at Rs 5,000 for individuals and small firms, Rs 20,000 for the rest. Unpaid tax adds a 1 percent hit plus monthly interest.
The MRA expects about 300,000 returns this year, down from 348,153, after the zero-rate band rose to Rs 500,000 and the brackets fell from eleven to three. Leaving it to tonight is a tradition; the penalty is not.
